YouTube at 20!
YouTube is 20 years old. Man, time flies. So much has changed, yet YouTube is still the place for video.

Wow! It's hard to believe that YouTube had been around for 20 years. And is still THE PLACE for video. MySpace didn't even last that long!
YouTube isn't just one of the, or the biggest, video sites online, it's also the 2nd biggest search engine after its parent, Google.
YouTube is a powerhouse and an ecosystem in its own orbit. People can make fortunes on the platform and others just host family videos for free.
YouTube for the marketing set can't be overlooked. Most of the sites on the inter-webs that have video, have said video hosted on YouTube and embedded on their site.
Not having your video on YouTube limits it reach to the masses and marketers know this. As do podcasters and "vidcasters."
There is a debate raging recently about if a podcast is a podcast if it only resides on YouTube. For more me that's a HARD NO.
But can a podcast have a video component and have that on YouTube? Absolutely and it should.
In fact, many of my podcast that have a video component only have the video on the YouTube and distribute the audio via RSS and podcasting apps. That's what I do with the Entrepreneur's Enigma podcast. And it works well.
It's not shocking that an average of 20 million videos are uploaded to the platform daily.
That's a number that I can't even visualize. Now, I'm sure a bunch of those will never get found or are needed to get found, but still that's an impressive number.
What's even more impressive, especially for a Google property, is that they are still releasing new features. It's a running joke that Google likes to kill things more than improve them. So this is a good thing.
Here's a question for you, my subscribers, how do you use YouTube? Is it strictly for personal uses or do you use it to market and learn?

Now YouTube is getting in on the AI Overviews game. This could be interesting.

ChatGPT has to find a way to monetize the free users some how. They are burning through cash like crazy. Especially when people are polite (that's what Sam Altman said in an X post).

This is good. Let's see if it actually helps, though.

Threads is now at .com not .net. I can only imagine the 301-redirect hell their devs are going through. 🤣

I can totally believe that AI Overviews are hurting click through rates to sites. 34.5% geez!

This is going to happen when your not a decentralized social network. Good to see there's still some workarounds.

Geezus. We're in a strange time. 🙄🤔

Because it's mostly NOT DECENTRALIZED! 😖🤦🏻The majority of the users are on the main server, as it's hard to setup a separate instance right now. So that's why I'm so against calling it decentralized.

Interesting that more of the teens feel that social media keeps them more connected with friends and peers and the parents are the ones that are freaked out.

Even though you can self-verify with a domain name and a simple TXT record, Bluesky is going to release blue check mark validating too. Maybe it's a good thing? I think it's just redundant and kind of stupid.

This will never happen. 🤣

An interesting view on how video and podcasts can work together! I still think there's a place for audio-only, but if you can do a video component then you should.

A good take on the Bluesky outage.

This could end up being a good thing. Big bad Google might be having it's 🍑 handed to it.

Can never hurt to know some tech terms right? Let's see how many over the year(s) stick.

It's gonna happen. But sooner than we know! 😖🤔
🎙️Podcast Coaching 🎙️

I've been podcasting since 2010. During those 15+ years I've learned a thing or two about the ins and outs of the industry and approaching it the right way.
I've decided to offer podcast coaching as a service to share the knowledge that I've accumulated over the decade-plus in the industry.

This made me chuckle. Especially the checkbox copy. 🤣

This is so neat. I know this isn't a science newsletter, but I had to share!

Read this post. This is how you do a podcast using Fediverse solutions. Also it's a great podcast.

This is just too cool. Yes, there are many cool boomers out there, but how many are coming back from as stint in space? Wow!

Intelligent Machines is a great podcast, formerly called This Week in Google, on the TWiT Network. Hosts Leo Laporte, Paris Martineau, and Jeff Jarvis talk about AI and Tech. It's a long show, but well worth a listen. They also have notable people interviewed at the top of the show.
That's It For This Week! Keep Rocking It!
