Your Personal Brand Is More Important Than Ever

With the job market in a strange state, it's important to have a personal brand.

The job market is in flux. Those without a personal brand are going to have a harder time in this market more than those with one of their own.

I recently was on brand SEO guru Jason Barnard's podcast Fastlane Founders talking about how podcasting can help bring brand power.

In the episode I talked about how a podcast can be used not just for the episode itself but for content that can be repurposed. All of it helps your personal and professional brand reach more people and companies that might want to hire or work with you.

Content is king more now than ever and let's not for forget it ALWAYS has been. With the emergence and dominance of artificial intelligence having good content will get you surfaced more in both traditional and AI search.

Networks like LinkedIn love user generated content (UGC) and on LinkedIN,when it's a video, it has the chance to be featured it in the mobile app in an Instagram-like feed.

So how can you start building a personal and professional brand?

Building a personal and professional brand is really about clarifying who you are, what you stand for, and consistently communicating that to the world. Here's how to approach it:

Start with self-reflection >> Figure out what makes you unique – your values, skills, passions, and the specific expertise or perspective you bring. What do you want to be known for? This becomes your foundation.

Define your audience >> Think about who you're trying to reach. Are you building a brand for potential employers, clients, collaborators, or a specific community? This shapes how and where you show up. If you miss this step, your content will, most likely, miss the mark and land on deaf ears.

Create consistent content and presence >> Share your knowledge and insights regularly through the channels where your audience hangs out – whether that's LinkedIn, a personal blog, Twitter, YouTube, or in-person networking. Fish where there's fish!

The key is consistency over perfection. You can write articles, share quick insights, comment thoughtfully on others' work, or create videos. But focus on being a regular contributor, so people come to expect your content and your voice.

Develop your unique voice >> How you communicate matters as much as what you say. Are you analytical and data-driven? Warm and story-focused? Provocative and challenging? Lean into what feels authentic to you. This might take a few tries, but experiment in public and see what resonates.

Engage genuinely with others >> Building a brand isn't just broadcasting – it's about building relationships. Comment on others' work, collaborate, help people when you can, and be part of conversations in your field. Nothing's worse than posting and ghosting. Don't do that!

Walk the walk >> Your brand is ultimately proven through your actions, not just your messaging. Deliver quality work, be reliable, treat people well, and live your stated values.

With all this in mind, have you started working on your brand identity? If not, what's holding you back? If you have, what's working for you?

The news and content consumption landscape has shifted—and podcasts are leading the charge.

Younger generations aren't just occasionally listening to podcasts for news and information—they're abandoning traditional media for them. If you're not leveraging this medium, you're missing out on one of the most powerful ways to build your personal or professional brand.

Here's the problem: most people start a podcast without a roadmap. They waste months figuring out what works through trial and error, or worse—they give up entirely.

I've spent over 15 years in the podcast industry, watching it evolve from a niche hobby to a billion-dollar ecosystem. And here's what I know for certain: the podcasters who succeed don't go it alone. They learn from others who've already navigated the challenges, avoided the pitfalls, and cracked the code.

That's why I created the Podcast Mastery Community on Skool—a space where you can learn alongside experienced podcasters, get real feedback, and fast-track your success.

Whether you're launching your first episode or looking to grow your existing show, this is where your podcast journey truly begins.

Join the Podcast Mastery Community today and stop guessing your way through podcasting.
