The Push For Video In Podcasting
There's a push for video in podcasting. But is it necessary?

There is a push for video in podcasting. Podcast consumers seem to want to see the hosts and guests visually as hear them.
I've been podcasting for more than 10 years. I think closer to 15. In the good old days podcasts were ONLY audio. Then people decided to take the video from the recording and put it on YouTube. Eventually the two combined into a feed and that's where we are today.
Tools like Descript make editing the audio and video pretty easy, if you're doing a straight "talking heads" podcast. If it's more scripted and nuanced or even fiction, that's more challenging. But overall video has gotten easier to work with.
Should you as a business owner, who is dipping their toe into the podcast space do video and audio right away? That's a tough question. It's really up to you. Though as a podcast coach, I'd suggest that the first few be audio only until you get comfortable then explore the video medium.
Podcasting is great for business development and content generation. With artificial intelligence helping with finding the hidden gems in the conversation for clips, video is always a plus. But there are ways to find these clips and use them without video. It's called the audiogram.
Audiograms are when you put an image up and play the audio with it. Often there is a wave form around the image moving to add some pizzaz. It's not as eye catching as video, but it's better than not using these clips for episode promotion.
Is video necessary to start a podcast? Absolutely, not! Spotify and YouTube are great places to share your podcast, but they are not the be-all end-all. You still want to be in all the podcast directories and have RSS hooked up so people can listen to your show how they want to. Let's repeat that... WHERE... They... Want... To.
What do you think? Are you a purist or are you going to look into video and audio for your show? Let me know!

Mastodon is coming into its own! I love it over there.
She will be missed. Josepha Haden Chomphosy has been a light in all this craziness. I have had the pleasure of meeting Josepha at WordCamps. She's always been accessible and gracious with her time. WordPress lost a good one.
Taking over for Josepha is Mary Hubbard who came from TikTok. Welcome!
Not really marketing, but I guess I could spin it as marketing that when Elon Musk unveiled the Cybertruck he broke the windows with a sledgehammer. The windows were supposed to be impact resistant. Maybe that was a foreshadow?
One word... Yikes!
At one time Bing and OpenAI were buddies. It doesn't look like the case anymore.
Wouldn't put it past them.
Of course you can't stop Meta. No one can stop Meta!
Yea. He's acting like a real "post-economic" schmuck.
Yep... 159 people, so far have left Automattic over the feud with WPE.
Sarah Gooding used to write for WP Tavern and was THE journalist to follow for WordPress news. She has since moved on to other things. But her take on this whole WordPress War is a good one.
Speaking of the WP Tavern, which is owned by Matt Mullenweg's Audry Capital VC firm, there is some nice coverage of Josepha Haden Chomphosy's, who was the Executive Director of the WordPress Project, resignation from Automattic.
Pretty neat. Clearly competing with OpenAI's Sora. And like Sora, it's not ready for everyone to play with yet. 😜
Oh here we go!
Now Google wants to go Nuclear! Hey just ask Matt Mullenweg how it's done. He's good at going Nuclear.

🎙️New Offering: Podcast Coaching 🎙️
I've been podcasting since 2010. During those 12+ years I've learned a thing or two about the ins and outs of the industry and approaching it the right way.
I've recently decided to offer podcast coaching as a service to share the knowledge that I've accumulated over the decade-plus in the industry.
