The Power Of YouTube For Your Marketing Efforts
YouTube, after Google, is the largest search engine on the Web.
Because of this you need to have your content on the platform.
If you're doing a podcast, even just audio, you need to have it there to be found and consumed.
In a recent post on the Descript blog they talked about how long most people expect to see on YouTube. What they found is that most people are happy with 15 to 20 minutes, but there is no secret number, per se.
YouTube shorts can be a maximum of 1 minute in length and are easily digestible. But when people want to watch and consume, I've found that my episodes of Entrepreneur's Enigma that are around 15-20 minutes do best. Though, most of my listeners don't consume via YouTube proper. They instead use YouTube Music if they use anything related to the platform. But regardless, YouTube Music and YouTube are intertwined so much that one is pretty much the other in my opinion.
If you're doing an audio only show, put up your album art as the graphic and upload that sucker. If you do video and audio, upload the video. In both cases make sure you put up the detailed show notes in the description for optimal findability.
The conclusion of Decript's post is worth sharing here:
Ultimately, "how long should a YouTube video be?" is the wrong question. People often try to “algorithm hack” instead of focusing on what makes compelling content. While the precise recommended length of a TikTok or YouTube video might be helpful in conceptualizing your content, there is no magic number that will replace good editorial judgment.
Algorithms on these platforms are always changing, and creators who do manage to find shortcuts to widespread viewership are usually the ones who collapse in the wake of these changes.
Are you using YouTube to consume and publish? I'd love to know your thoughts! Hit reply and let me know!
