Podcasting Is About More Than The Numbers And Stats

Recently someone asked me for my stats on my podcast Entrepreneur's Enigma. I get decent numbers, but what this person misunderstood that the reach is far more than your subscriber count or the download numbers.

Seth looking at his phone with suspicion. He's sitting outside on a stone bench with green foliage around him and cobble stones. There are sculptures behind him.

This really irked me. Someone who pitched to be on my show and I accepted to have a preliminary call with me then asked me what my subscriber and download numbers were.

They PITCHED me. Then asked me essentially to prove that I was worth their time. If you pitch someone to be on their show, do your research, first. It's not that hard. 🤔 Their excuse was that they weren't a premium member of the service they were pitching me on and couldn't see my stats. Another thing, if that data matters to you, pay for it.

Now am I being sensitive? Yes. But it rubbed me wrong, because it shouldn't be all about the numbers. It should be about having a good interview/chat and then getting clips and content to share beyond the podcast. And to be honest, my numbers are great, but that's not the point.

This is what I'm constantly trying to get my clients at Podcast Mastery to learn. That the direct ROI from a podcast, either appearing on a show or hosting one, shouldn't be the goal. It should be the ROI around the podcast. The personal branding opportunity, the ability to tap into someone else's network.

All of this is way more important than some arbitrary numbers and stats. Focus on the big picture. Focus on how you can provide value to the show and then how you can use the show to promote your own brand later on. And for the love of God, do your research before pitching!

Am I off base? Let me know!😉😏
