Podcast Studies Are All Over The Place With Results

First everyone says video is the way to go with podcasts, then there's studies coming out that say that Gen Z prefers audio. Honestly, just do what you're comfortable with and podcast!

Lately there have been a number of studies published saying contradictory things. One says most people are watching or listening to podcast on YouTube. Another says that Gen Z, especially, prefers audio and is using Spotify as their primary player.

Honestly, if you have the capabilities to do a video podcast do it. But also publish the audio to and RSS feed. This will cover both sides of this debate.

It seems as though humans have an innate ability to rank things and also call one piece of tech or way of doing things DEAD when it really isn't.

It's frustrating, because with all this bickering on what way is the best, we're missing the point. People are consuming more and more content that isn't produced by necessarily professional video/audio personalities.

To me that's the big thing. The over all democratization of media is happening. People are more empowered now more than ever to start their content journey and build a personal brand. This is fantastic.

What is concerning to me is that in one study, it shows that Spotify is the dominant place where people listen to shows. They are a walled garden and that is upsetting. But, I get why more people listen there than elsewhere. They are already in the ecosystem for their music, so why not stay there for the podcasts.

This is also why people are listening/watching quite a bit on YouTube. YouTube Music has podcasts in their player, so I'm sure that's skewing the numbers in that study.

Overall, regardless of how you listen to your favorite shows, support the creators. Share the episodes, contribute to their Patreon (or similar) accounts.

What do you think about the future of podcasting and where people are listening/watching? Do you even care?
