Never Quite Understood Not Wanting Personalized Adverts Vs. Irrelevant Adverts

I might be in the minority on this one. 🤔

Recently YouTube pushed back against adblockers on their service. Their pitch is either pay for YouTube premium (which as a boatload of features included) or allow ads to play.

Seems reasonable enough. Now YouTube Premium isn’t inexpensive, but you get a whole lot with it, including ad free YouTube and YouTube Music, among other features.

I don’t pay for YouTube premium, I deal with the ads. Are they annoying, yes! But that’s my choice between the two options. And to be honest, most of the ads are relevant to me, so I don’t mind them. Sometimes I don’t even skip them, and even more rare, I might even buy the product/service.

What I don’t get, and I know I’m in the minority here, but I much rather have relevant ads for items that I might want or interest me than products out of left field.

Not having targeted ads and having to watch an ad that is not relevant is infuriating. Some ads, which are targeted, are sometimes even clever. And dare I even say it… better than the content I want to watch.

  I liked Pokémon Go back in 2016, when it first came out. My 11-year-old still plays it from time-to-time. But saying that the game and AR in general are going to boom in 2024, that’s a bold statement.

• Elon Musk Launches New ‘Grok’ AI Chatbot to Compete with ChatGPT
  Here we go. More Elon in the news. Note, he was an early partner/investor in OpenAI. He’s a small individual with way too much money on hand.

• Threads Is Developing an API, Though Remains Wary of News Content Influence
  Meta/Instagram Threads might not be killing it, but people like the product. Yet still the powers-that-be are wary of what the platform should be in the way of content. I say just let it evolve naturally. But that’s me.

  Per the great Barry Schwartz (if you’re in the SEO community you get this moniker), Google isn’t going to warn us when they update the Reviews algo anymore. It’s going to be a continuous rollout of changes. In a way this makes sense. Just change things as you go. Instead of all at once. Though many people are wary of the change.

  This means that Google is indexing the mobile version of sites more than desktop sites. This makes sense as most people use their phones to view the ‘net. More than desktop.

  Remember Reddit And the fiasco? I have hardly been back. But this does look interesting.

• Millennials: It’s ok to mourn the death of social media
  I’m actually excited for where social media is going. Yea, the old Twitter was great, as was Reddit pre-Hoffman, but let’s not say social media is dead.
