ChatGPT 5 Was Panned. But I Thought It Was Pretty Good.
Widely panned as a flop. ChatGPT 5 is the victim of being over hyped. And some people not realizing that ChatGPT shouldn't be your BFF.
ChatGPT 5 was way over hyped. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman got way ahead of himself with touting the latest release. OpenAI also made the blunder of taking away the old models at the same time.
I might be in the minority, but I didn't think ChatGPT was abysmal in any way.
I asked it to brainstorm with me about a marketing strategy for a project I'm working on. I asked it to help me with the positioning of the service and it did a decent job. I then asked it to help me with the first draft of the copy for a landing page for what we were working on. It did a decent job.
After that, I got daring and asked it to code up a HTML5 page with the collaborated content and placeholder images. It did exactly that.
Pushing further, I asked it to convert that HTML5 page into code that I could put in the WordPress Block Editor. Guess what? It did a great job of it.
Now, I get that some people use ChatGPT as a therapist (DON'T!) and as a confidant/BFF (not judging). In these use cases the more blunt version 5 was jarring and not the same. But... ya shouldn't be using ChatGPT, any version, as a therapist. And, yes this is a little judgy, but maybe you should go out and "touch grass" and talk to other humans.
Now, that last part wasn't very fair and I admit that socialization is different and has varying degrees of difficulty for people. But getting upset when a company changes the personality of an artificial intelligence model kind makes me worried for the human race.
I have to applaud OpenAI for seeing the backlash and bringing back ChatGPT 4o back for paid subscribers. Admitting that your product needs work and listening to your customers is always good.
