AI Copy Lacks Soul, Personality, And Relatability
Don't just ask AI to write your copy and throw it out to the world. Use it to brainstorm and come up with ideas, sure, but write the final draft yourself.
When content can be manifested in seconds with Artificial Intelligence, human written content has an advantage... it has personality and soul. When you think about AI content, it lacks that very soul and personality that human writers can bring to topic that's being written about. It's just boring. As a human writer, you now more than ever have to focus on being memorable and relatable. You need to focus on what sets you apart from the machines. 🤖
You can use AI to help clean up your copy and polish it up a little bit if you need to. But ultimately, don't let it lose the soul in your copy. Write it yourself — warts and all.
Just because AI has taken over certain ways of writing, don't stop writing.
For example the em dash is seen as a sign of AI. But it's been uses for ages by humans. If you want to use em dashes in you writing – use them! Damn it!
If you space you content in specific – way do it.
All this adds personality and makes your writing relatable.
Professional copywriter Emily Aborn in her latest episode of the Small Business Casual Podcast talks about this very subject – relatable content. It's a episode that need to be heard.
In the episode, Emily discusses three real examples of copy that either make her cringe or take a positive action right away. She goes on to explain how making your content relatable creates community and can help you grow your business.
Here are some of her main points:
- Relatability is a bridge, not the final destination.
- The point is to get someone from "this person gets me" to "they can help me get somewhere better."
- You do not need to have lived someone's exact experience to help them. You do need real empathy or real authority.
Have a listen – I'll wait...
Great! You back? Let's continue.
So, I've noticed something about about copy online. The content that is readable, relatable, and has a soul is human-written. It's not always polished and sometimes even has grammar or spelling issues. Now I'm not saying make errors great again or anything, but they do show humanity in copy. Everybody makes mistakes. AI... not so much.
I went to college a the University of Delaware (Go Blue Hens!) where I studies History and Journalism.
As a brief aside... Can I tell you something? I couldn't have picked two subjects with more divergent writing styles!
I tended to favor the journalistic way of writing (short paragraphs and easy on the eyes) to the more buttoned up scholarly writing that History professors like. I'm sure I made many of my history teachers' eyes bleed.
What I noticed in school and since is that journalistic-prose tends to be more approachable to the masses (hence "mass media"). It's easier to read and thus more relatable. I'm not saying sloppy, but easier to get to the point of piece and educate yourself on the topic.
With AI copy, it comes out very formulaic (it is a machine after all), and, I'll say it again, dull.
So where does this leave us?
Use AI to come up with ideas. Have it be your brainstorming partner. Even use it to help you draft an outline.
But don't let it write the final draft. You write it yourself with all the personality you can muster.
You'll see a great return.

I wonder how much money swaying this judicial opinion. Hmmmm. 🤔🤨

A good piece that should be read by everyone. Also A+ on the layout!

This is just gross. Not the first time and definitely not the last.

Good grief. Skynet is coming faster than we thought. 🫣

That's a lot of money!

It's coming. The reckoning.

Interesting. It's not black and white.
A great rundown on what the heck is going on with WordPress. It's over 30 minutes long, but worth the watch.

I agree. And to be honest, Sam Altman has always been untrustworthy and slimy.

This is good if you have a physical location. If you don't, there are other options.

Smart move. Make HTTPS and secure browsing as obvious as possible. If you're not using SSL certificates in 2026, what are you doing? It's free and best practice.

This will be handy for podcasters who want to point listeners and visitors on their podcast websites to Apple to listen.

Shocker! 🤖🤪🤨

AGI is here... AGI is here... Whoohoo! Good grief. Is it here? Or is Sam Altman just blowing smoke up our collective a$$?

So tempting to do this. I've done it for some things.

What a surprise 🤪. Meta having trouble doing something? Naw. Surprised? Not!

Well that's nice. 🤔🤨 We all knew it was them.
