A Bunch Of Firsts

Like the Artemis II mission, marketing can have lots of firsts. And that's both scary and exciting.

On April 1, 2026, for the first time since December 1972, humans are heading to the Moon. They might not land this time around, but still it's been a second since we've been that far from Earth.

This mission marks a number of firsts.

  • 1st time in my lifetime astronauts have been out of Earth's orbit and heading to the moon! A personal first, but still a first.
  • The 1st woman going to the moon.
  • The 1st black person going to the moon.
  • The 1st Canadian and non-US citizen going to the moon.
  • The 1st time any human will be the farthest from Earth, when Artemis II swings wide around the dark side of the Moon.
  • The first time the astronauts have a bathroom with them going to the moon. I kid you not! 🚽
  • And maybe not a first per se, but the oldest astronaut going to the moon.

These are a lot of firsts and a lot to celebrate. Especially when events on our little Earth are more of a shit-show than something to celebrate.

I didn't catch the launch live, instead I watched the replay.

When I watched, I got choked up. It really felt like something special was happening. And you know what? Something positive and special WAS happening. We all need this right now.

So What Does This Have To Do With Marketing?

Like with sending people to the Moon, marketing can be seen as a nice-to-have, a non-necessary expenditure. Especially in hard times.

But its not. Marketing is needed more during tough times as is launching humans on a giant firecracker to the Moon.

Some marketing activities can see like a "Moon-Shot" (pun intended 😉) sometimes. SEO, AEO, GEO (all the acronyms) are all reaching for the Moon (yea, I did it again 😂) and hoping to stick the landing. Hoping for positive results on your efforts. But if you don't take the risks... you don't get the rewards.

For the Moon flight, if we don't send astronauts up to test systems and see if we can do generally do it, we'll never make an advance to having bases on the moon. For marketing, if you don't optimize your site for SEO (et. al), and don't do social media, and create content, you'll miss out on those rewards as well.

So to tie this up in a nice little bow. The Artemis II mission had a lot of firsts and your businesses marketing can have a bunch of firsts too, you just have to take your shot.

WordPress needs to refactor, not redecorate | Joost.blog
WordPress’s deepest problems aren’t cosmetic, they’re architectural. The responses to EmDash from Matt Mullenweg, Hendrik Luehrsen, and Brian Coords crystallize what needs to change: the data model, content storage, and plugin permissions.

I agree with Joost on this one. WordPress needs help. And this is coming from a WordPress user and someone who uses it in business.
